Slumber was commissioned by Intrawest for the new Westin Verasa Residence in Napa, California. The piece is designed to both break up the grand lobby area and to provide a screen element in front of the elevator area.
The sculpture is translucent with a matte finish on one side, allowing for changing light transmission over the course of the day.
Slumber is a composition of natural materials, cast in a 1 1/2 inch thick polyurethane sculpture. The composition, inspired by similar works in my NextNature photographic series, contains primarily acacia seedpods along with bay, oak and other
elements typical of Northern California woodlands.
Made at John Rook's Leraglass studios in San Bruno, California, the 11 foot x 5 foot sculpture was cast in four layers in August 2008.
