There is a seemingly endless list of hazards present in day-to-day life: chemicals in drinking water, meteors hurtling towards the earth, deadly viruses in the air, and toxins in our food, to name a few. News of these disturbing possibilities surface regularly in the round-the-clock news cycle, frequently contradicted or revised at a later time by sources with different information or agendas. This leads to mounting confusion, vulnerability, and anxiety for many people, including myself.

My artwork is an attempt to mediate my sense of helplessness in the face of this confusion with my own imagined visualization of these threats. Through drawing and painting, I create images of what these perils might look like: massive meteoric explosions, microscopic views of viruses, the chemical make-up of toxins. I tame, aestheticize, and recreate science to my own liking. The resulting artworks are amateur scientific fantasies of an alternate reality — one that is innocuous, amenable, and my own fool's paradise.
